How to find out if someone is writing about you

How do you know if someone is writing something (like a blog post) about you? You could search in various search engines for your name for example once a week or once a month, but there’s an easier way! Google got a service called Alerts where you can sign up for various alerts (for example when Google finds a new page with your name).

To setup an alert for your own name simply visit www.google.com/alerts, click on sign in to manage your alerts and login to your Google account.

If you don’t have an account or a Gmail email address you can simply sign up for free by clicking on Create an account now.

Sign in at your Google account

When you have logged in you simply click on the button called “New Alert” to setup a new alert. Fill in your name as the search term and the rest of the details. You may want to use “” around your name so you only get results containing both your first name and last name and not only one of them.

I usually select as-it-happens for my alerts to get an email immediately when someone is writing about me. That way I get the results about 15 minutes after Google found a new page about me :D . If you get a lot of articles written about you you could select for example once a day to not drown in emails.

Fill in the form.

Now your alert is setup and as soon as Google find a new page/article/blog post about you you will get an email with some text and the URL to the page about you.

High speed surfing?

I’m sitting on the train trying to write a post in my blog at a speed of 200km/h.  According to the the ads it should be the fastest Internet in Sweden, but the actual surfing speed is sometimes so slow that I can’t even upload the pictures I’ve taken :(

Anyway happy birthday to me :D

Happy birthday CrimGirl.com’s mom

CrimGirl.comI have no idea who CrimGirl.com’s mom is, but I guess she’s a nice person. Now you may ask why I’m sending a Happy Birthday greeting to someone I have no idea who she is? Well the answer is simply I visited www.crimgirl.com to see if the site was up and running as CrimGirl wrote a few days ago. Unfortunately the site wasn’t up and running (but that wasn’t really a surprise was it?), but CrimGirl had a new deadline: Hopefully this week (or maybe more exactly 2047 like she wrote earlier :D ). Anyway I guess CrimGirl got as much to do as I have, so I guess we all have to wait some more for the site :D . Once again Happy Birthday CrimGirl.com’s mom :D

CrimGirl.com where did you go?

Some time ago I found a fantastic web site owned by a girl in Chicago. The site was called CrimGirl.com and was packed with articles and posts about criminology (CSI style but for real :D ). The site has unfortunately now been down for “renovation” by her neighbor for several months now and last time I checked the release date had changed to April 2024 :( !!! Oh my God, I’m going to be 46 years old then! I DON’T WANA WAIT SO LONG!!!!!!!

I just sent an email to Courtney and I really hope she will get back online with her funny, entertaining and yet still informative and educating web site :) .

15 minutes - now 15 megabytes

Here’s something I wrote for The World According to Xavier:

In the old days (read: as late as in the beginning of this year) it was called “15 minutes of fame” when someone got a short-term hit of some kind in TV or Radio. With the latest hit (or what-ever you should call web sites like MySpace, YouTube, Google Video and many more) I guess we have to change that expression to “15 megabytes of fame”.  In the old days you had to do something unusual, make a reporter interested in your “project” and wait for the late TV news to have people see you on TV. Today anyone can broadcast their ideas, project or crazy stuff as they like because all you need is a camera, a video editing software (free or trial software will do just fine) and a crazy idea. The actual publishing of the video is the easy part nowadays with all picture and video sharing communities all over Internet.

This new trend with video publishing can of course also be used by companies as a compliment to ordinary advertising campaigns. A company can easily (and at pretty low cost) produce a short, funny and crazy video with some kind of hidden ad. This has already been done several times this year and I guess we will see it even more in the future. The upside of this is that ads should be funnier to watch, but the downside is that it will be harder to see the difference between ads and home-made projects.

I don’t think the trend with video and picture sharing communities will stop in the near future because people have always wanted fame and will so in the future too. We simply just have to relax and enjoy all the fun stuff published. Just don’t believe everything you find on the Internet…..

Thank God for wire-less Internet

I have just installed wire-less Internet at home and I have to say that it’s amazing. I’m outside in the fantastic swedish summer sun writing this :D I can’t imagine how I could survive without this before…. :D

The game between Germany and Sweden today (in a little bit more then an hour) is going to be really interesting. I really hope Sweden will beat Germany, but the odds for that are against Sweden :(

Argentina vs Mexico later today will be rally interesting. Mostly because I have bet some money on Argentina :D I usually don’t bet, but I like the odds for this game (Argentina 1.40 — Mexico 7.00 at Ladbrokes).

If you live in Sweden you can get 500 swedish crowns to bet for at Unibet. Read more about that here.
